Drums Etc. Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Drum's Etc.
original watercolor instrumental ensemble w/drums, piano, bass: 10" x 14"
Drummer’s Dilemma
There’s drums a-plenty
For the drumming fanatic
From the triplet set’s least
To the bass drum, that beast,
The choices never cease!
With notes so sporadic
And sometimes exotic
It can be hypnotic
But always drum-atic!

All That Jazz Watercolors by Bertie Brown
All That Jazz
original watercolor instruments, piano/trumpet/trombone, drums: 17" x 17"
There’s rhythm in Blues
drums, keyboard and brass
they’re hoping that, too
there’s payment in cash
they pass around notes
like we did in school
but these notes are ‘cool’
they don't follow rules!

String Fling Watercolors by Bertie Brown
String Fling
original watercolor w/violin, piano: 12" x 16"
A String Thing
The strings are such
A complicated section,
We say that and invoke
Our greatest affection,
With notes that soar
To the highest of heights
The violins bow frantically
Trying to get it just right!
And notes writ so low
A bass’s brow frowns
While bending to bow
So low to the ground.
Always self important
No humility, not a trace
They sit right up front
And take up prime stage space.
The rest of the orchestra
Accepts this with grace
Their parts they play well..
They are quite exceptional,
And oh so professional...

Music'ly Inclined Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Music'ly Inclined
original watercolor instruments: violin/piano: 11" x 16
strings are things
that go plunk
when they’re plucked
but when they are bowed
well, properly so,
they sing full and free
with the greatest of ease
like an acrobat high
on the flying trapeze

Coronation Station Musical Still Life Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Coronation Station
original musical motif still life w/trumpet, violin, piano: 11" x 14"
would a trumpet
be a strumpet
if she played a loose lipped jig
while her brother
played another
more pretentious tight hipped gig
would a trumpet
eat a crumpet
while she played a high brow dig
could a strumpet
be a pundit
if she shed her platinum wig?
would a trumpet
be a strumpet
if she wore one high heeled shoe
could a crumpet
clog a trumpet
if it got stuck in her tube?

Ragtime Musical Motif Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Ragtime
original musical motif watercolor w/piano, horn, trumpet, cat: 8" x 11"
the piano is back
and these are the facts
there’s still lots to do
with a keyboard that’s new
but vintage is in
what a glorious thing
it’s sound does inspire
what ragtime requires
a bouncy upbeat
Scott Joplin-esque treat
