Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

DoubleDogDareYa Watercolors by Bertie Brown

DoubleDogDareYa
original watercolor pet portrait: 8" x 10"

May your Christmas Bells
be shiny and bright
with melodies light
and harmonies tight
May each Christmas gift
remind you of this
The Babe in the stall
Is The Lord of us all...

Christmas Brass Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Christmas Brass
original watercolor musical motif w/trombone, trumpet, horn: 10" x 14"

Sophie Says
what ho
I just want to know
who’s lying in that manger bed
with a stable roof o’er His head
and why are there reindeer
flying in the night sky
with a guy in a sleigh
following close behind
And
there’s a tree in our house
with packages strewn about
that I’m not s’posed to touch
and there seems to be such
a decorating fuss
it’s confusing, you know
for a little kid so
I’ll just ask BB
I’m hoping that she
can explain it to me!

We 've gotta sell ourselves all to you
So we better get hangin’

Ourselves on the Slate Cafe walls!

Hornist Anne Marie Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Hornist Anne Marie
original watercolor portrait: 10" x 12

back in the day
I remember we played
with marbles and jacks
and baseballs and bats
but sometimes I recall
though I tried hard to stall
I had to apply
my  lip
to the tip
of my tarnished old horn
and try not to sound
too bad or forlorn
much later I found
practice, patience plus time
would greatly improve

my horn teacher’s mood

Music'ly Inclined Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Music'ly Inclined
original watercolor violin/sunflower: 12" x 12"

Practice makes better
But perfect?
Not ever...
Especially if painting
Is what you can do
You’ll prob’ly improve
But that’s questionable, too
My advice to you

Buy a Bertie Brown or two!

The Man*The Myth*The Legend Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Man*The Myth*The Legend
original watercolor portrait:7" x 10"

there’s rhythm in blues
and red stripes, that too
and some runners who
are patriots, 'tis true
which brings us to this
a guy you can't miss
as he takes his place
at each Red Rose Race
it may slow him down
but still that flag flies
and we in the crowd
cheer and give him 'Hi Fives'!

Baubles 'n Bell Instrumental Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Baubles 'n Bell
original watercolor still life w/horn: 17" x 17"

Quints Jam
the woodwind quintet
is surprised and upset
that a brass french horn-et
is allowed on their set
while the woodwinds complained
the french horn explained
that his rich rounded sound
kept the woodwinds anchored down
so they threw up their hands
made a quick change of plans
and that’s how it began

for the woodwind “Quints Jam”!
