Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Gilligan's Skipper Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Gilligan's Skipper
original watercolor butterfly: 8" x 10"

Plein Air Posers
Sophie and I
Are painting plein air
Under bright sunny skies
On a day so fair
Our sunflowers primp and preen
While we apply the sunscreen
Then get right to work
As we quench our paper’s thirst
With lots of water, that’s our technic
‘Cause happy accidents are what we seek!
Bleeding colors, water marks
Lights contrasting with darkest darks...
Working quickly, we’re in a hurry
(We try not to worry
Will this be a keeper
Or one we will bury?)
Well, Sophie girl
What do you think
She nodded and smiled
And gave me a wink!

not so ItsyBitsy Watercolors by Bertie Brown

not so ItsyBitsy
watercolor spider: 5" x 7"

Practice makes better
But perfect?
Not ever...
Especially if painting
Is what you can do
You’ll prob’ly improve
But that’s questionable, too
My advice to you

Buy a BertieBrown work
'Tis the right thing to do!

The View Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The View
original watercolor landscape: 8" x 10"

Cold Front
The windows I’m closin’
my sunflowers need  hosin’
it’s blisterin hot
not one cold spot
‘cept here by the door
of the freezer in the store
where I pretend to stock up
on creamsicle pops
but truth to be told
it’s just good to feel cold!

The Bogger Bloggers Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Bogger Bloggers
original watercolor w/turtles: 8" x 10"

The Blog....
Hey there mommy
Guess what Daddy
Grandma BB
Got accepted
To a website
Or a blogsite
Which is just
What Grandma BB thinks is great luck!
She’ll post paintings
That are waiting
To be purchased
By a merchant
Or collector
Art inspector
Or someone
Who loves her work and wants to buy some......
She will prob’ly
Post our Ozzie
And that work she
Titled “Sophie”
She’ll work hours
Posting flowers
Music themes
And in between
Some landscape scenes....
Then we’ll wait here
Hope and pray here
That somebody
Sees her work there
And sends e-mails
With some details
Of an order for
A work to fit their decor!

Bouquet Daze Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Bouquet Daze
original watercolor roses bouquet: 8" x 10"

Summer Bliss
My windows are open
Cool breezes are flowin’
My curtains are flirtin'
With the sill and the sash
This is the way
A fine summer day
Ought always to be
For two months or three....
Suites me perfectly

I bet you’d agree!

RedWing Redux Watercolors by Bertie Brown

RedWing Redux
original watercolor RedWinged Blackbirds: 9" x 12"

Emily had a lot to say
Just like Edna
St. Vincent Millay
Though she wrote in quite a different way
Her poems and prose
Fairly penetrate our souls
And nature-ally
Our birdies agree!

The Spider Besider Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Spider Besider
The Guest Request
original watercolor spider and snake" 9" x 12"

Sophie and I read
the book “Charlotte’s Web”
and we have a question
that’s been in our heads
the story goes thus:
a pig’s days are numbered
his time is soon up
it’s bacon for him
and pork chops well trimmed
his friend, Charlotte spider
and he reminisced,
a dark corner hider
and the pig she would miss
they thought up a way
this pig could be saved
could Charlotte the spider
convince his indictor
a clever wordsmith
Charlotte started a web,
spinning words, to wit,
 “some pig” it said
now everyone knows
how this story goes
the heartwarming end?
Charlotte saved her best friend
but we want to know
how a spider could spell
and though the pig lived
he never did tell!
so of course we would go

to her web to word show

The WS RedWings Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The WS RedWings
original watercolors red-winged blackbirds: 9" x 12"

Harmo-nious Perso-nious
went out for a run
this very fine day
had lots to be done
stuff that gets in the way
of some fun in the sun
but nature’s libretto
called out ceremo-nious
in pleasing vibrato
a sound tremolo-nious
twas something I sought to
experience in perso-nious
and when I got done
on this very fine day
from my run in the sun

I was all tuned up and completely harmo-nious
