Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Glassified in-Formation Still Life Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Glassified in-Formation
original still life watercolor w/horn, glass vases, marble: 12" x 14"

back in school
we learned the rule
that there were cliques
a specialty list
of kids way cool
though we weren’t fools
our own gene pools
just did not rule
we weren’t as blessed
our confidence less
we weren’t sure why
and could not guess
but since i've grown
i have been known
to play horn well
for quite a spell
now as i paint
i simply state
this art i make
is instrument’ly

a quirk of fate

The House That Josh (re)Built Watercolors by Bertie Borwn

The House That Josh (re)Built
original watercolor home painting: 8" x 10"

sometimes when I doubt
and nothing is clear
my horn just comes out
and a painting appears!
of course there are times
when plein air’s the way
and sunny warm climes

mean a landscape paint day!

It's The Little Things That Count Watercolors by Bertie Brown

It's The Little Things That Count
original watercolor still life w/horn, glass, marble: 12" x 14"

The French Conundrum
the french horn is happy
wherever it plays
from woodwinds and brass
to  the strings with such class
yes, the instruments agree
it’s sound does so please
and most of the time
the horn is quite amiable
but it can get unruly

and downright unplayable!

Passages Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Passages
original watercolor still life w/bust, glass, daisy: 14" x 18"

the piano-forte
is high on my list
of things i should try
before i am missed
but how in the world
could my fingers and toes
work all of those keys
and pedals of gold???
i can’t even think
of reading bass clef
‘cause treble takes all
 the brains i’ve got left
so maybe i’ll just
be happy that i
was suitably good
playing horn while i could
