Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Com-Posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

 C0m-Posers

original watercolor sunflowers: 11" x 15"

Sophie and I know

that sometimes it’s best

to simply allow

a painting to rest

it may not be done

though there are intense

and beautiful hues

that seem to make sense...

so we must ensure

the painting’s success

this work must secure

it’s soulful-ishness

Francy Portrait Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Francy

original watercolor:9" x 12"

i think that it’s done

and i had some fun

‘though there a few

solutions that skewed

my original view

and managed to be

surprising, you see

so long as Francy

is happy and pleased

we'll sign it and mat

and call it a wrap

Pepper-azzi Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Pepper-azzi
original watercolor peppers: 11" x 14"

 pitter patter

pepper chatter

what’s the news

and latest reviews

who just got sacked

was told to get packed

and leave with his knives

despite all his cries

yes, you know the show

we watch from our bowl

and grateful are we

‘cause we’re posers you see

our owner just paints

so we’ll not be braised

sliced diced nor arranged

on your fancy plates!

Com-Poser * DeCom-Poser Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

 Com-Poser*DeCom-Poser
original watercolor sunflowers:  5" x 7"

as summer reclines
in translucent honey haze
autumn comes alive
with transparent amber days
cobalt blue nights
fill infinite skies
cool winds collide
pushing summer aside
from hazy to bright
these transitions are inherent
seasons come and they go
with their foibles quite apparent

RockMeGently Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

RockMeGently
original watercolor sunflower: 10" x 14"

 may autumn come gentler
o’er dew glittered morns
meandering zephyrs
refreshment adorned
it’s time to embrace
this summer’s demise
the sun’s fading grace
and hazy blue skies
autumness comes
routinely, you see
it’s time to move on
what will be will be
i think you’d agree

Com-Posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Com-Posers

original watercolor sunflowers: 10" x 14"

my sunflowers are done

their petals are gone

though the finches, I see

are still havin’ fun

they no longer cling

to those sunflower rims

to split and to spit

the shells that they’ve bit

they just take their seats

at the table..a feast!

it’s the best buffet yet

for those birdies, I bet

‘tis a glorious thing

a Goldfinch Grinch Fling

but for me, I just fret

‘cause autumn comes next!

Bloomin' Bouquet

                                                          original watercolor sunflowers: 9" x 12"

                                                                     The Golden Oldie Girl

                                                                     my vibrant sunflowers

 last week so spry

have bent down a bit

heaving a sigh

they hang down their leaves

it seems that they’re just

dry crumpled sheaves

about to be dust

there’s no use complaining

as they have no say

the season is changing

it’s all nature’s way

they lift up their chins

and give me a shrug

tighten their bonnets

with a sly little tug

my golden sunflowers

will soon cease to be

I cherish those hours

they’ve shared here with me

Contained Com-Posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Contained Com-Posers

original watercolor sunflowers: 10" x 14"

 the sun’s in retreat

giving me the cold shoulder

this summer romance

is apparently over

gone are the sundrops

warming my face

menacing shadows

have taken their place

 cobalt blue breezes

rustle about

autumn is coming

of that there’s no doubt

my sunflowers are ruined

their beauty in tatters

seeds, petals, leaves

lie tossed about, scattered

i notice the dance

of those spurious squirrels

as they snatch the remains

of my golden sun girls

more quickly than ants

at a picnic, they advance

and I thought that finches

were sunflower grinches!

now I’m left all alone

‘neath a dry, crumbling wall

where my sunflowers once stood

majestic and tall

i’ll try not to fear

as hope becomes clear

they’ll be back next year

with more summertime cheer!

Com-Posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Com-Posers

original watercolor sunflowers: 9" x 12"

And So It Goes

Ackkk!

 the sun’s in retreat

giving me the cold shoulder

our summer romance

is apparently over

gone are the sundrops

warming my face

menacing shadows

have taken their place

 cobalt blue breezes

rustle about

autumn is coming

of that there’s no doubt

my sunflowers are ruined

their beauty in tatters

seeds, petals, leaves

lie tossed about, scattered

i notice the dance

of those spurious squirrels

as they snatch the remains

of my golden sun girls

more quickly than ants

at a picnic, they advance

and I thought that finches

were sunflower grinches!

now I’m left all alone

‘neath a dry, crumbling wall

where my sunflowers had stood

majestic and tall

so my task is to wait

for this fact I hold dear

they’ll be back next year

with more summertime cheer!
