Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Poppy Pizzicato
original: 8" x 10
and the poppy said
to her buddy in the bed
why don't we simply try

Playin' Around Musical Motif Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Playin' Around
original watercolor musical motif w/violin: 15" x 18"

is Wagner's violin
tuned to play his Lohengrin?
could a horn that's far too small
belt out Siegfried’s famous call?
did he ever fret or worry
that his music wouldn’t curry
to his benefactors’ whims
casting poverty on him?
could it be, heavens no
I don’t think that it was so
though he surely had some strife
in his many storied life

Busted! Musical Motif Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Busted!
original still life watercolr w/Mozart, Beethoven busts:15" x 22"

at this time of year
with spring drawing near
two glasses of wine,
not one, calms my mind
might winter decease,
desist or at least
call it a fine day
and just go away
I’m tryin’ to stay
upbeat, by the way,
with Mozart, I’ve got,
Beethoven and Bach!

A Musical Bent Musical Motif Still Life by Bertie Brown

sometimes when I doubt
and nothing is clear
my horn just comes out
and a drawing appears!
but sometimes it’s true
strings are fun, too
when they're a bit skewed
but you knew that, didn't you...
