the sun it was shining

the view oh so fair

what i did not see

was a stranger near me

he must have been testy

that bugger so pesty

who unknown to me

(painting so busily)

took exception, i guess

and gave me his best

i hollered out OUCH

you bugger you beast

i’m stung and you’re OUT 

squashed by my feet

so here’s the main thing 

when painting plein air

to avoid a bee sting

use bug spray EV’RYWHERE!

once played horn in her town’s symphony 

when she lost her good buzz

she took up uke cuzz

ukers don’t fret, they sing and they strum!

so come to the Ukulele

Uprising and surely you’ll see

that strumming the uke

with this friendly group

Sophie and i

must say our goodbyes

to poppies that bloomed

in spite of monsoons
those daily May showers
did bring us some flowers
that managed to tread
in water drenched beds
they did do their best
Sophie and i will attest
we're hoping next year
will bring us more cheer
and we’ll get the chance
to paint "Poppy Prance"

want y’all to know

they’re still hangin’ round

the ‘old folks’ hometown

seems they’re gettin’ set

to host an event

it’s been 50 years

since they left the nest

the menu’s the same

though some might complain

‘cause aging has changed

their innards these days

oh,  Bumblebee Burgers and Golden Finch Fries

will still hit the spot

but Butterfly Splits and Dragonfly Pies

are a bit o’re the top

so do not worry

 it won’t be late 

this midnight soirée 

will close down by 8

Weather Blues

oh, how i long 

for June or July

and summer sunshine

filling the sky

this season is cold
it’s gettin' so old
with rain fairly seepin'
through all, i'm just weepin'
my poppies have bowed
their heads to the ground
debating if they
will come back next May
i’m still sportin' leggins

and sweaters indoors

i tell you i’m beggin’

for June at the shore

each year springtime’s gettin’
too hard to endure

while summer sits back

and just takes a nap

than we’d hoped for or imagined

a beauty pageant!

Sophie and I, artistic hosses

are painting their portraits

till our poppy bosses

are simply long stems

with great petal losses!

we’ve less than a week

to get the job done 

we’re hoping for good weather

with plenty of sun!
