Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

The MoodyBlues Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The MoodyBlues

original watercolor Silver Mines stone mill, Marticv Twnp, PA: 10" x 8"

it’s relative-ly

a new work, you see

with something that’s old

a shape big and bold

and some that are new

with int’resting hues

borrowed from yet

a past series set

hmmm...

it’s deja vu

for those orange and blues!

Goin' to the Chapel Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Goin' to the Chapel

original watercolor Boehm's Chapel: 8" x 10"

A quick study draw

With some washes of paint

Complete what I call

An old country church

That ended our search

For peace and good will

And time that stood still

Martin/Mylin Gunshop Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Martin/Mylin Gunshop

original watercolor historic Lancaster County Building: 8: x 10"

Practice makes better

But perfect?

Not ever...

Especially if painting

Is what you can do

You’ll prob’ly improve

But that’s questionable, too

My advice to you

Buy a Bertie Brown or two!

BabblinBoon Watercolors by Bertie Brown

BabblinBoon

original watercolor baboon: 10" x 8"

I forget

do gnus

rhyme with canoes

or maybe baboons

and what is the need

if you could, tell me please

of the extra L'd Llama

for it’s silent, do you see

is it oh so much better

to own one more letter

than the Lama, actual-ly

or the Nu with no G

The Boyz from Brazil Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Boyz from Brazil

original watercolor native peoples: 8" x 10"

The shofar's not a copycat

But you already do know that

Not a trumpet or cornet

Or a curvy French Horn-et

Distinctive and unique it is

It has its own mystique-iness

And jungle cats do know the drill

When that horn sounds

They head for cover in the hills!

The Kenyan Connection Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Kenyan Connection

original watercolor Kenyan People: 14" x 10"

Going Solo

The horn stands alone

Not lost or forlorn

Just a confident fellow

Shiny outside

Inside, mellow.

Its song, so melodious

With notes that do soar

But can be quite odious

When notes don’t sound sure

One thing is certain

When the hunt has begun

The dense Kenyon curtain

Critters all pay attention

SkippyLongstocking Watercolors by Bertie Brown

SkippyLongstocking

original watercolor giraffe: 8" x 10"

Winter Blues

oh, how I long for June or July

with summer sunshine

and butterflies passing by

this season of cold

has taken it’s hold

with harsh winds now wailin’

seems the sun has gone sailin’

so I’m getting all set,

though it’s hard not to fret,

as blankets cover my lap

 and I settle in

 for a long mid-winter’s nap......

Your Lion Eyes Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Your Lion Eyes

original watercolor lion: 8" x 10"

Wisdom is trusting

trusting in God

When the pathway has gone

Hidden by fog

it seems like you’re trudging

Through miles of wet clay

And you can’t find the reason

Nor light for the way...
