Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Laverne Squir'ley Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Laverne Squir'ley
original watercolor squirrel: 8" x 10"

What ho!
the winds they were screamin’
my house it was leanin’
right into the flow
of last night's COLD blow
my windows were bulgin’
the furnace was pulsin'
that nor’easter’s hold
was keepin’ me cold
my goosebumps I declare
had goosebumps I swear
my nose it was froze

to my icicled toes

Playthings Musical Instrument Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Playthings
original watercolor with muiscal instruments, horn/trumpet, paints, brushes: 18" x 22"

Practice makes better
But perfect?
Not ever...
Especially if painting
Is what you can do
You’ll prob’ly improve
But that’s questionable, too
My advice to you

Buy a Bertie Brown or two!

Quints' Jam-balaya Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Quint's Jam-balaya
original watercolor musical instruments: 9" x 12"

Well
the music said “rest”
so the woodwinds obeyed
they rested their best
and quietly laid
their reeds
and their keys
right down
with no frown
then I got my stuff
my paints, pan and brush
turned on my i-tunes
and worked until dusk
now when I was done
I took just one quick
lollipop lick
then settled to munch

 a black licorice whip!

Quints' Jam Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Quints' Jam
original watercolor musical instruments/ woodwind quintet: 10" x 14"

licorice whips
and lollipop licks
glasses and globes
and woodwinds also
it’s relative you know
but one thing’s for sure
this group needs a horn
with full rounded bore
to balance the sound
of notes up and down
and licorice whips
are relative links
to lollipops licks

atop that long stick

Rhody 'n Blues Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Rhody 'n Blue
original watercolor still life w/Rhododendrom: 10" x 14"

Cold Storage
'twas time to relax
and take in the sight
of rhodys in blue
posing for you
seems we are all cold
‘though this winter’s plight
has less bite i'm told
of course “they” are right
but winter it is
and if "they're" like me
it’s summer we miss
on that we agree

UkerDude Watercolors by Bertie Brown

UkerDude
origibnal watercolor portrait: 9" x 12"

I think that it’s done
and I had some fun
‘though there a few
solutions that skewed
my original view
and managed to be
surprising, you see
so now I don’t know
if it’s fit to show
if not,
 you’ve just got

to tell me to Stop!

NY State of Mind Watercolors by Bertie Brown

NY State of Mind
original watercolor cityscape: 9" x 12"

my sister’s a knitter
a fine knitter sitter
she sits and she clicks
those long shiny sticks
coaxing mile after mile
of yarn into tricks
her magical styles
of socks called argyles
and mittens and vests
are simply the BEST
she expertly winds
these loops into gear
that keep us quite warm

during COLD winters here
