Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Orchestreet Suite Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Orchestreet Suite

original watercolor cityscapes/ musical instruments: 9" x 12"

is it musically correct

to combine different sects

of instruments, no less

to create a new sound

or a work of renown

going outside the bounds

of traditional ground?

or must we conform

to a list of reform

that helps us endure

 our circuitous norm...

Sheepish Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Sheepish

original watercolor sheep: 9" x 12"

at the end of The Day

I had but one thought

what happens to all

this work that I’ve wrought

‘twas always the best

of efforts i gave

my utmost, no less

and there was success

in music, of course

i’m wondering now

did it happen at all

if it did, then how??

i gratefully bow

to Mozart and Bach

i painted to them,

and Beethoven, a lot

but what happens next?

ditch the paper and paint?

get some needles and thread

sew something instead?

i’ve got time to fill

and miles to go

energy still

until, until....

WinterWhite Watercolors by Bertie Brown

WinterWhite

original watercolor still life w/violin, fruit, flowers: 9" x 12"

Winter Blues

oh, how I long for June or July

with summer sunshine

and butterflies passing by

this season of cold

has taken it’s hold

with harsh winds now wailin’

seems the sun has gone sailin’

so I’m getting all set,

though it’s hard not to fret,

as blankets cover my lap

 and I settle in

 for a long mid-winter’s nap......

EmBell-ishment Watercolors by Bertie Brown

EmBell-ishment

original watercolor still life w/horn, crayons: 15" x 15"

Practice makes better

But perfect?

Not ever...

Especially if horn playing

Is what you can do

You’ll prob’ly improve

But that’s questionable, too

My advice to you

Buy a French Horn Kazoo!

FruitLoops Watercolors by bertie Brown

Fruit Loops

original watercolor still life with violin, lemon, lime, apple: 9" x 12"

and this is the question

can I toss intention

and renounce all strife

at this stage of life?

could I, if you please,

watch daytime TV

munch crackers and brie

sip Long Isle Iced Teas

would I, do you see,

be happy with ease??
