Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Fruit o' the Bloom Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Fruit o' the Bloom
original watercolor still life w/sunflowers, fruit: 9" x 12"

Weather Blues
oh, how i long
for June or July
and summer sunshine
filling the sky
this season is cold
it’s gettin' so old
with rain fairly seepin'
through all, i'm just weepin'
i’m still sportin' wristies
and sweaters indoors
i tell you i’m beggin’
for June at the shore
each year winter's gettin’
too hard to endure
while summer sits back

and just takes a nap

Round-about Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Round-about
original watercolor still life w/apples, bananas, sunflowers: 10" x 14"

Florida's fine
for beaches and tides
soaked in brilliant sunshine
but Sunflower Alley
has it's own unique kind
of charm that I find
exceptional, why?

because it's all mine!

Valen-time Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Valen-Time
original watercolor still life w/sunflowers, fruit: 10" x 14"

absolutely resolute
i’m absolutely certain
some truth is indisputable
and strictly put imputable
so don’t go all refutable
i don’t want your rebuttable
that verbal hyper babbable
you’re so above reproachable
and also un-correctable
see that’s just irresponsible
and truly indefensible
we all could be sympatico

if y’all weren’t so emphatico

Rhythm & Blues Series (bottles, bowls, apples) by Bertie Brown Watercolor Still Life

Rhythm & Blues
original:14"w x 13 1/2"h

Rhythm & Blues

A bottle once buried in sand

Shells found on the beach

Fabric patterns, colors, and folds

Form rhythms the objects now hold

And the color blue

An important element too

All conjure up an image

Of sea upon dry land.

Rhythm & Blues

Original Watercolor Still Life with Fruit: 21"w x 27"h

Rhapsody

“Rhapsody in Blue”

Was our music today

Sophie and I thrilled

To the opening way

That the clarinet soared

Through that octave and more...

We set up a still life

With lots of great blues

We have so much fabric

It’s hard just to choose

Then added some apples

Three bottles, two bowls

On top of the fabric

With plenty of folds

We hummed to the tunes

While painting till noon

Sophie, my rhapsody

In tap dancin’ shoes

Gerschwin and Orchestra

Playin’ his blues!

Then added some apples

A lemon and mug

And threw some old brushes

Into a jug

We hummed to the tunes
