with their curls

gossip all the day long

giggles here

sniggles there

oh the secrets they share

‘she’s a lush’

then they blush

oh it’s all so unjust

when it comes 

to their chums

they tell all that they’ve done

so I must 

paint and just

let them gab without fuss

it’s in jest

I just bet

though I’ve got no proof yet…

Could be in that drink

My Sunflower Saloon

Serves each day at noon?

It just seems to me

From what I can see

After drinking their fill

Of sunflower swill

 Are tipsy bumble bees

Some drunken butterflies

And finches on trips

of loops, dips and flips

As they try to fly

The straight narrow line

To their homes and their hives...

Oh I have a hunch 

It’s not Kool-Aid punch

That beckons this bunch

To come enjoy lunch!

something finches disdain

as they each stake their claim

to my sunflowers’ fame

don’t they have a clue

I have etiquette rules

they routinely eschew

behaving so RUDE

I’d tell them to flee

‘cause they’re making a scene

and a mess at my feet

spitting shells from their beaks

but they are rather cute

in their black and gold suits

and their hollers and hoots

sound like piccolo flutes!

of some fun in the sun

but nature’s libretto

called out ceremo-nious

in pleasing vibrato

a sound tremolo-nious

twas something I sought to

experience in perso-nious

and when I got done

on this very fine day

from my run in the sun

I was all tuned up and completely harmo-nious
