Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Lancaster Cownty Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Lancaster Cownty

original watercolor landscape w/cows: 10" x 14"

and the holstein cried

to the bovine on her right

why don’t we simply try

to lay our views aside

let's get along today

‘cause that’s the kinder way

to graze in peace ’n harmony

will  benefit us all you see

Autumness Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Autumness

original watercolor fall landscape: 9" x 12"

you cannot be chicken

if you do some paintin’

unless you are thinkin’

you’d like a good lickin’

‘cause just when that paint

does wondrous fresh stuff

your brain turns to mush

and you muck it all up

EnDeering Watercolors by Bertie Brown

EnDeering

original watercolor deer in lanscape: 9" x 12"

there’s rhythm ’n blues

and these three approve

of cash to be passed

for this pic under glass

so here’s to their fans

and the money they hand

to the painter

at her stand

she’s gonna be glad

Martin/Mylin Gunshop Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Martin/Mylin Gunshop

original watercolor historic Lancaster County Building: 8: x 10"

Practice makes better

But perfect?

Not ever...

Especially if painting

Is what you can do

You’ll prob’ly improve

But that’s questionable, too

My advice to you

Buy a Bertie Brown or two!

BlowHard Watercolors by Bertie Brown

BlowHard

original watercolor autumn landscape: 9" x 12"

what ho

Sophie and I

just want to know

who switched off the heat

and dimmed the lights low

where are the wool socks for our feet

our cashmere sweaters and turtlenecks

who said summer could retreat?

we are cold and so distressed

why can’t winter last one week

it’s time I guess

to hibernate

until next June

and we both say

please come back soon..

Falling Water Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Falling Water

original watercolor landscape: 8" x 10"

I think that it’s done

and I had some fun

‘though there a few

solutions that skewed

my original view

and managed to be

surprising, you see

so now I don’t know

if it’s fit to show

if not,

 you’ve just got

to tell me to Stop!

MiniMart Watercolors by Bertie Brown

MiniMart

original watercolor landscape VietNam market: 12' x 16"

there could be misconceptions

some slight depth perceptions

a misappropriation

with no negotiation

i will not enhance

renounce at a glance

embellish or squellish

not even a chance

it just filled a day

in the neighborhood i’d say

so onward i press

in search of success…

VietNam Throng Watercolors by Bertie Brown

VietNam Throng

original watercolor lamdscape VietNam '68

Harmo-nious Perso-nious

went out for a run

this very fine day

had lots to be done

stuff that gets in the way

of some fun in the sun

but nature’s libretto

called out ceremo-nious

in pleasing vibrato

a sound tremolo-nious

twas something I sought to

experience in perso-nious

and when I got done

on this very fine day

from my run in the sun

I was all tuned up and completely harmo-nious

Re-Tree-t Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Re-Tree-t
original watercolor trees: 6" x 10"

Lumber Jack Ernie
‘Twas 3 weeks before Christmas
And all through Ernie’s house
Not a creature was stirring
Not even a grouse
(Ernie loves birds
In case you haven’t heard)
The trunks were all split
And the bundles of sticks
Were hauled off and gone
(It took all week long)
The lawn was layed bare
Not a branch was left there
Now Ernie was pooped out
And down for the count
Yes a long winter’s nap

Sans his jacket and hat!

Sophie's Sweet Talkin' Friends Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Sophie's Sweet Talkin' Friends
original watercolor landscape w/figure, pony, burrow : 10" x 14"

Sophie and I
are asking you-all
are buttercups high in cholesterol?
they glisten like butter
in their gold-yellow clusters
we think they’d taste great
and we’d be well fed
if we used them as spread
on our jelly bread
wouldn’t popcorn just popped
be better with hot
melted buttercups drizzled
all over the top?
is lobster that’s baked
in buttercup paste
richer in flavor
more pleasing to taste?
Sophie and I
just giggled and said
we think that we’ll paint

her new friends instead!

and nothing is clear
my horn just comes out

when plein air’s the way
and sunny warm climes

The Little Red Table Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Little Red Table
original watercolor still life w/table, sunflowers: 8" x 11"
Home Sweet Home
original lanscape watercolor

Sophie and I know
that sometimes it’s best
to simply allow
a painting to rest
it may not be done
though there are intense
and beautiful hues
that seem to make sense...
so we must ensure
the painting’s success
each work must secure
it’s soulful-ishness

Lancaster County Crop Stop Landscape Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Lancaster County Crop Stop
original watercolor landscape: 11" x 14"

A Summer Romance
Time to sit back
Look forward,
Relax...
Jasmine and honeysuckle
Scents of seduction
Flirty Fireflies wink
Quick bursts of combustion
Warm summer nights
A cashmere caress
Sun soaked daylight
No hint of duress
‘Tis summer’s sun-dance

A welcome romance.
