Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

The Garden Girl Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Garden Girl
original watercolor aummer scape" 6" x 6"

Spring Musical
oh spring
is the thing
we diss in November
miss in December
lose in January
right through February
cry for in March
die for in April
can’t wait one more day
for the merry month of May
and still cold temps cling
to every bloomin’ thing!
so when the month of June
bursts suddenly into view
I look around and smile

beg stay with me awhile

Model Session Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Model Session
original watercolor portrait:
9" x 12"
Winter Blues
oh, how I long for June or July
with summer sunshine
and butterflies passing by
this season of cold
has taken it’s hold
with snow now fallin’
seems the sun shine is stallin’
so I’m gettin' set,
though it’s hard not to fret,
as blankets cover my lap
 and I settle in

 for a long mid-winter’s nap......

Sophie's Sweet Talkin' Friends Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Sophie's Sweet Talkin' Friends
original watercolor landscape w/figure, pony, burrow : 10" x 14"

Sophie and I
are asking you-all
are buttercups high in cholesterol?
they glisten like butter
in their gold-yellow clusters
we think they’d taste great
and we’d be well fed
if we used them as spread
on our jelly bread
wouldn’t popcorn just popped
be better with hot
melted buttercups drizzled
all over the top?
is lobster that’s baked
in buttercup paste
richer in flavor
more pleasing to taste?
Sophie and I
just giggled and said
we think that we’ll paint

her new friends instead!

Playmates Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Playmates
original watercolor trumpet player: 8" x 10"

brass blast
would a trumpet
be a strumpet
if she played a loose lipped jig
while her brother
played another
more pretentious tight hipped gig
would a trumpet
eat a crumpet
while she played a high brow dig
could a strumpet
be a pundit
if she shed her platinum wig?
would a trumpet
be a strumpet
if she wore one high heeled shoe
could a crumpet
 clog a trumpet

if it got stuck in her tube?

Muse-ical Watercolors by Bertie Nrown

Muse-ical
original watercolor figure: 10" x 12"

a musician displays
exhibitionist ways
but it’s all okay
‘cause music filled days
and nights do remain
quite high on our list
of things we like best
so please don’t insist

we cease and desist!

Dancer at Ease figure drawing by Bertie Brown

Dancer at Ease
pencil drawing of ballet dancer: 10" x 14"

i think that it’s done
and i had some fun
‘though there a few
solutions that skewed
my original view
and managed to be
surprising, you see
so if it’s not fit
or off just a bit
ignore if you please

thus dancer at ease!

Back to the Drawing Board Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Back to the Drawing Board
original figure drawing: 11" x 14"
back in school
we learned the rule
that there were cliques
a specialty list
of kids way cool
though we weren’t fools
our own gene pools
just did not rule
we weren’t as blessed
our confidence less
we weren’t sure why
and could not guess
but since I've grown
i have been known
to play horn well
for quite a spell
now as I draw
i do recall
that art and song
to ALL belong

The Farmer's Daughter Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Farmer's Daughter
original watercolor landscape w/figure: 8" x 11"

 oh my Sophie says...
I really love it when
BB takes me en plein air
there are vistas everywhere
lots to paint
a new landscape
and someday I think I’ll try
to sit still and paint the sky
or a bluebird on the wing
but for now I’ll play and swing
and let BB do her thing......
