Portrait Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Zane
original watercolor portrait: 9" x 12"
i've got the blues
that’s certainly true
but i've also got
‘magination, a lot!
so natur-ally
my cousin's grandie
came out just to pose
and those blues got to go!

Kaiya
original watercolor portrait: 9" x 12"
at this time of year
with cold far and near
two glasses of wine,
not one, calms my mind
might winter decease,
desist or at least
call it a fine day
and just go away
I’m tryin’ to stay
upbeat, by the way,
when paint ing these pix
of very cute chicks!

BahamaBabe Watercolor Portraits by Bertie Brown
BahamaBabe
original portrait: 9" x 12"
Weather Blues
oh, how i long
for June or July
and summer sunshine
filling the sky
this season of cold
it’s gettin' so old
i'd like to stay sleepin'
instead i'm just eatin'!
my poppies have bowed
their heads to the ground
debating if they
will come back next May
i’m always in leggins
and woolrich indoors
i tell you i’m beggin’
for June at the shore
each year winter's gettin’
too hard to endure
while summer sits back
and just takes a nap

Lincoln's Cottage Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Lincoln's Cottage
original watercolor Lincoln's Cottage WA, DC: 10" x 12"
Tuff Stuff
There once was a spring breeze named Sough
Not harsh nor decidedly tough
He nudged winter’s huff
Said “pick up your stuff”
And blew it away with a puff!

The Heart of the Orchestra Watercolors by Bertie Brown
The Heart of the Orchestra
original watercolor instrumental w/strings, woodwinds: 10" x 14"
A String Thing
The strings are such
A complicated section,
We say that and invoke
Our greatest affection,
With notes that soar
To the highest of heights
The violins bow frantically
Trying to get it just right!
And notes writ so low
A bass’s brow frowns
While bending to bow
So low to the ground.
Always self important
No humility, not a trace
They sit right up front
And take up prime stage space.
The rest of the orchestra
Accepts this with grace
Their parts they play well..
They are quite exceptional,
And oh so professional...

The Oboist Watercolors by Bertie Brown
The Oboist
original watercolor: 9" x 12"
Woodwinds Rule
The Woodwinds agree it’s a funny thing
To sit behind a sea
Of self-important Strings
They chuckle to think
That a skinny black stick,
(Not unlike a licorice whip)
An Oboe,
You know,
Is chosen to play the tuning note
And if the orchestra is listening
And not playing by rote
They’ll make beautiful music together...
At least that’s what we hope!
