when they’re plucked

but when they are bowed

well, properly so,

they sing full and  free

with the greatest of ease

like an acrobat high

on the flying trapeze

a Prickly Pair

we’re in despair

it’s not funny, I’m not sunny

and he’s def’nitely not Cher

seems bickering fills the air

and tempers tend to flare

‘cause these ‘renos’ are just

filling our home with dust

I’m sure when it’s done

our new stuff has come

we’ll ask ourselvs why

we let our tempers fly

we  won’t even mention

our former contention

‘cause we’ll be content

with our new firmament!

what ho

Sophie and I 

just want to know

who turned off the heat

and dimmed the lights low

where are the wool socks for our feet

our sweater sets and turtlenecks

who said summer could retreat?

we are cold and so distressed

why can’t winter last one week

it’s time I guess

to hibernate until next June

and we both hope

that comes real soon!

through the stuff she held dear

will I at long last

go joyfully, not fear?

it’s one out of one

that’s how it’s been done

since time has begun

not one can outrun

if i do not learn

from my past mistakes

i thwart all the grace

and just run in place

yet

there is a rock

and a mercy seat

where grace is revealed

in humility

now

this cornerstone

it beckons to me

i bow myself down

and freely receive

this whole year has brought

assignments for sure

decisions to make

more stuff to endure

so maybe I’ll just

hide out for a bit

beside my still life

for one brief respite
