Methods and Madness
Sometimes I paint fast and loose
Other times quite controlled
The subject decides the method
But each work has the same goal:
A painting that is successful
And beautiful to behold!
BB
Toast!
cheers to beginnings
for 2000-1-3
I do hope my paintings
turn out well, you see
so here’s to good starts
whatever they be
as wet paper + paint
spread out before me
may each have a touch
of magic I trust
as I try skillfully
to wield my paint brush!
BB
Quints Jam
The woodwind Quintet
Is surprised and upset
That a brass French Horn-et
Is allowed on their set
But the French Horn explained
While the Woodwinds complained
That his rich rounded sound
Keeps the Woodwinds anchored down
So they changed all their plans
And that’s how it began
For the “Woodwind Quints Jam”!
BB
Practice makes better
But perfect?
Not ever...
Especially if horn playing
Is what you can do
You’ll prob’ly improve
But that’s questionable, too
My advice to you
Buy a French Horn Kazoo!
BB
Conch en Fa
There once was seashell named Conch
Who was lonely and displeased with his lot
So he puffed out his cheek
Buzzed a low mellow screech
Now he’s part of the rock group “Conch-crete”
BB
Sophie’s Sun Sack
remember back when
we played in the sun
yes summer was then
days so full of fun
and do you recall
you looked up to ask
could we pack it all
up tight in a sack
we’d store it away
then open that pack
on a cold winter’s day
for a sun bathing nap!
BB
2013
there’s def’nitely
a space for me
in this new year
as this I see
more work to do
with more thought to
creative ways
that hit the mark
of ending well
a well thought start
BB
Relativity
back in the day
when Sophie was a babe
I imagined that we
would be best friends indeed
she’d be 2 0r 3
and I would be...
well, older, you see
I pictured us
thus:
eating crumpets
drinking tea
dressing dollies in pink jeans
we’d sing and laugh a lot
have long talks
as we walked
while my poems said all that
Sophie grew and that’s a fact
now we really have those talks
as we take our little walks
and we def’nitely agree
BFFs, we’ll always be!
BB'12
oh Annabelle
yes you
you’re doing so well
precocious, pert too
and smart, we can tell
I imagine it now
those things you’ll somehow
just naturally do
in a few years, maybe two(!)
a concert at Carnegie
that prestigious hall
your work on a MOMA
Emerging Artist wall
you’ll be the Faerie Queen
In A Midsummer’s Night Dream
and sing opera with ease
Madame Butterfly, if you please
and in between these
you’ll learn your ABC’s
those numbers one, two, three
and of course, the Do-Re-Mi’s
so Annabelle
you see
your Grandma BB
is watching you grow
from her far away home
but she’ll be back soon
for a visit with you!

Sophie and I
are asking you-all
are buttercups high in cholesterol?
they glisten like butter
in their golden yellow clusters
we think they’d taste great
and we’d be well fed
if we used them as spread
on jam or jelly bread
wouldn’t popcorn just popped
be better with hot
melted buttercups drizzled
all over the top?
is lobster that’s baked
in buttercup paste
richer in flavor
more pleasing to taste?
Sophie and I
just giggled and said
we think that we’ll paint
those buttercups instead!

Gossip Girls
The sunflower girls are gettin’ together for lunch
And gossip and news at the “Cafe Munch Bunch”.
The menu for today's Sunflower Brunch:
Bumble Bee Burgers and Golden Finch Fries
For dessert: Butterfly Splits and Dragonfly Pies....
So do not tarry, don't be late
For this fine midday tete-a-tete!
BB
Harmo-nious Perso-nious
went out for a run
this very fine day
had lots to be done
stuff that gets in the way
of some fun in the sun
but nature’s libretto
called out ceremo-nious
in pleasing vibrato
a sound tremolo-nious
twas something I sought to
experience in perso-nious
and when I got done
on this very fine day
from my run in the sun
I was all tuned up and completely harmo-nious
BB
and this is the question
can I toss intention
and renounce all strife
at this stage of life?
could I, if you please,
watch daytime TV
munch croissants with cheese
sip Long Isle Iced Teas
would I, do you see,
be happy with ease??
BB
The Blog
Hey there mommy
Guess what Daddy
Grandma BB
Got accepted
To a website
Or a blogsite
Which is just
What Grandma BB thinks is great luck!
She’ll post paintings
That are waiting
To be purchased
By a merchant
Or collector
Art inspector
Or someone
Who loves her work and wants to buy some......
She will prob’ly
Post our Ozzie
And that work she
Titled “Sophie”
She’ll work hours
Posting flowers
Music themes
And in between
Some landscape scenes....
Then we’ll wait here
Hope and pray here
That somebody
Sees her work there
And sends e-mails
With some details
Of an order for
A work to fit their decor!

Favorite Things
Molly and Ozzie and Sophie and me
Comfy and cozy
And ready to read
Satin hemmed blankets
Tugged up to our chins
These and much more are our favorite things...
Cabled wool sweaters
Are just right for me
Fleece is much better
For Sophie’s soft cheek
Long runs and brisk walks
Short stories and long talks
Warm milk for Sophie
And sweet tea for me....
Mozart and Beethoven
Bach and Bartok
Dancing and singing
To classics and pop
Playing the French Horn
I liked that a lot
These and much more are our favorite things.....
When cold winds blow
And the skies snow
And we get the blues
We pick up our brushes
Our paper and paints
And paint till those blues
We loose!
BB
It’s Me That You See
Sophie was curious
And, oh so serious
“BB,” she inquired
“When you are inspired
How long does it take
You to draw and paint
A bright pretty picture
A special scene captured?”
“Well Sophie, my muse
You’re here with me, too
So you do have some clues
Regarding all that I do
But I’ll answer quite simply:
A painting takes distinctly
As long as it seems
That I have been me
And it’s me in those paintings,
If you look closely, you’ll see.”
I say that emphatically
And slightly dramatically!
BB
Sophie Says
Hey there BB
What’s the matter
You look sadder
Than I’ve seen you
What can I do
To help you through
This long season, what’s the reason for this blue mood?
Well now, Sophie
It’s this painting
It is heading
For a shredding
I am shirking
Failure’s lurking
Apprehension brings congestion to my working...
Wait a minute
Let’s review it
There is something
Good that’s due it
Its got movement
That’s conducive
To the theme you’ve worked on, finish and include it!
Okay Sophie
I’m supposing
You’re proposing
I keep going
So I’ll suffer
While you buffer
All my fears of failing, now let’s start another!
BB
