The Poppy Prance

Sophie and I

must say our goodbyes

to poppies that bloomed

in spite of monsoons

those strong April showers

did bring us some flowers

but most couldn’t tread

in water drenched beds

they did do their best

Sophie and I will attest

but maybe next year

there’ll be more poppy cheer

and we’ll get the chance

to paint their Poppy Prance
