Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Background Music (Series) by Daily Painter Bertie Brown Original Contemporary Figurative Drawing

Musically Inclined

original musical motif abstract drawing: 7 1/2"w x 9 1/2"h

Musical Mystery

A new thing to do

When you’re bored or feelin’ blue

Let a cloth freely drop

Right over the top

Of a still life gone stale

Or one that just failed

And let a drawing begin

Using lines thick and thin

Till a theme comes alive

Or an idea starts to thrive

It’s surprising what you can find

Hidden behind time..

Master Copy - Paganini Portrait by Ingres

master copy drawing: 7 1/2"w x 9 1/2"h

An Ingres drawing

Is perfect, you know

From his first pencil mark

To his last stroke so dark

So with great trepidation

And yes, capitulation

I drew this for my assignment

In a classroom confinement

I drew as I fussed

But I got my A Plus!

Background Music

original contemporary figurative drawing on gessoed music manuscript: 9 1/2"w x 12 1/2"h

Perfect Practice

Practice makes better

But perfect?

Not ever...

Especially if drawing

Is what you can do

You’ll prob’ly improve

But that’s questionable, too

My advice to you

Buy an Etch-a-Sketch too!

  1. I love this. I am looking forward to following your blog. I actually recognize some of you paintings from "wandering around" the blogs. I am attempting to self-teach myself watercolor - lots and lots of trial by error. You capture light quite well! Love the sunflowers!

  2. Thank you so much, Margaret! It's so great to receive positive reinforcement....I am sort of self taught in watercolor, though I have taken some workshops and an occasional class. I am fortunate to have found an artist that I paint with at times...She is excellent at drawing and composition, so that helps me through some problems I make for myself! but she doesn't know much about watercolor...so at times she can be very frustrating to me because she doesn't understand the difficulties that go with the medium...keep going and get help when you need it!
