Welcome

Welcome to my blog where you can view a sampling of my watercolor paintings and discover why for me, Art Is Instrumental. These, as well as many more in my studio, are for sale and looking for good homes!

Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Poppy Pizzicato Series by Bertie Brown

Oopsy Daisy

Fare Thee Well

My poppies have taken

Their final bows

Yet Sophie and I are not saddened somehow

For they staged a great show

And Sophie and I know

(Yes, we both have an unction)

That next year’s production

Will bring a Tony Award induction!

Little Red Haired Girls

All the little red haired girls

Sporting layers of orange-red curls

Are prancy and dancy

And especially fancy

In the merry month of May

As they celebrate each day

‘Cause that’s the time of year

They spread their good cheer

And wish everyone summer sun-days

With beach, pool, and park fun-days!

Poppy Pageant

More little red-haired girls

Than we’d hoped for or imagined

It looks just like

A beauty queen pageant!

Sophie and I, artistic hosses

Are painting their portraits

Till our poppy bosses

Are stems with great losses!

We’ve less than a week

To get the job done

We’re hoping for good weather

With plenty of sun!

Next Sophie and I

Will sit idly by

While sunshine and showers

Coax our sunflowers

To burst from their beds

And lift up their heads

Then we’ll paint all their faces

To show at exhibits,

And gallery places

Poppies

Curvaceous long legs

Popping up from their beds

With ruffled petticoats flouncing

Such perky orange heads!

They do the Pizzicato Polka

It’s the perfect dance for them

As they twirl and spin around

On those strong and curvy stems!

POPPY!

Morning light

Sunshine bright

My first Poppy

This spring in sight!

Orange lace

Pretty face

Gazing high

To friendly skies

On one long leg

It pops about

Calling her ‘buds’

To come on out!

  1. The punch and simplicity in this series is spectacular! I love the dance they create when scrolling thorough them all! Beautiful...

  2. Thanks for the comment, Susan! The poppies are over now so I will be awaiting the blooming of my sunflower girls. Are you an artist or an art lover or both?
