Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

HumphryBogart Watercolors by Bertie Brown

HumphryBogart

original watercolor rooster: 9" x 12"

Good Vibrations

i love the way

on a late august day

 the sun reaches down

to gather around

my sunflower girls

with their gold-yellow curls

and their skirts made of leaves

that sway in the breeze...

the birds of the air

and the insects working there

create a vibration

a vibrato celebration

as they all harmonize

their praise to the skies...

i’m thankful to be

by this shimmering sea

and grateful to hear

this music of the spheres

Rooster Cogburn Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Rooster Cogburn

original watercolor rooster: 8" x 10"

There once lived a Rooster Cogburn

who watched o're his brood with concern

He crowed all awake

Drank cafe au lait

And never an egg did he break

Chicken Tricks

You cannot be chicken

If you play french horn

Unless you are thinkin’

You’d like a good lickin’

When that horn does balk

Sounding out a loud squawk

And Beethoven rolls over

As you shrug your shoulder

Rooster Blues Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Rooster Blues
original watercolor rooster: 7" x 10"

Seems I’ve lost my way
and there’s nothing to say
and there’s no one to blame
still I bear no shame
I gave it my best
shot, I NEVER do less
though I would suggest
and surely have guessed
some kind of success
by now I confess
still I’ve no regrets
‘cause I’m gonna bet
having lived through the test

‘twas as good as it gets
