our faces were bronzed
our hair sun-streaked gold
our innocence reigned
we’d never grow old
but time has a way
a mean streak, I’d say,
of hastening the days
that youth does betray
so now that we’re old
or older, to wit,
we’re gonna wise up
and use sunscreen, just a bit...

to springtime's warm sun

where are the wool socks for our feet
our cashmere sweaters and turtlenecks
who said summer could retreat?
we are cold and so distressed
why can’t winter last one week

But my girls do not really care
About the state of their fair hair
Nor do they ever fret
If they break out in sweat

balletic butterflies
nibble coyly, wings spread out
we’re down in the ‘hood’
the ambience, good
we all share this space
extolling its’ grace
but finches, those grinches
just don’t play the game
they swoop in a fury
causing many to scurry
the petals they strip
snip nip and rip
the shells from the seeds
they spit at my feet
fine-ly they flee
those snippy birdies
and all of us "B"s
are grateful returnees

A swarm of buzzing bees, on tiptoe
Sipping nectar, sneaking about
A bevy of dancing butterflies, en-point
Nibbling coyly, wings stretched out.....
A frenzy of furtive finches
Swoop down in a hurry
Stripping petals, spitting seeds
Causing others to scurry
It’s a task of great import
Filling up their bitty bellies
In this haven of summertime rest

Sophie and I
Are painting plein air
Under bright sunny skies
On a day so fair
Our beezers primp and preen
While we apply the sunscreen
Then get right to work
As we quench our paper’s thirst
With lots of water, that’s our technic
‘Cause happy accidents are what we seek!
Bleeding colors, water marks
Lights contrasting with darkest darks...
Working quickly,
We’re in a hurry
Will this be a keeper
Or one we will bury?
