Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Jakey's Gang Amish Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Jakey's Gang

original watercolor Amish and school: 10" x 14"

Remember in school

we learned the rule

that there were cliques

a specialty list

of kids way cool

though we were no fools

our own gene pools

just did not rule

we weren’t as blessed

our confidence less

we weren’t sure why

and could not guess

and now these kids

in their plain clothes

are happy with

the lives they live

The Buggy'n the Bridge Amish Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Buggy'n the Bridge

original watercolor landscape and Amish: 8" x 10"

i wonder as i wander

trotting through this country work

does my horse sense

make much more cents

than EVs

pushed by those 'greenies'

or

does that bridge of reddish color

rich in hist'ry

with it's cover

need a facelift

or a raze if

deemed unsafe

for those EVs

Jakey's Kid Amish Watercolors by Bertie Brown

 Jakey's Kid

original watercolor Amish goat: 10" x 14"

in the beginning

we all loved the sun

we couldn’t get enough

we were never quite “done”

our faces were bronzed

our hair sun-streaked gold

our innocence reigned

we’d never grow old

but time has a way

a mean streak, I’d say,

of hastening the days

that youth does betray

so now that we’re old

or older, to wit,

we’re gonna wise up

and use caution, just a bit...

Goin' Courtin' Amish Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Goin' Courtin'

original watercolor Amish: 8" x  10"

now the Amish said

to the girl he wooed to wed

why can’t we simply try

to lay our views aside

let’s get along today

‘cause that’s the better way

to live in peace and harmony

will benefit our kin you see

Amishin' Lancaster County Amish Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Amishin'

original watercolor Lancaster County Amish outing" 10" x 14"

are Lightning Bugs buggers

that blink in the night

just summer time pluggers

getting on with their life

or did they endeavor

as quaint named Fire-Flies

to be thought of as better

alighting June skies

it’s really semantics

‘though slightly pedantic

that one name’s romantic

and rightly dram-antic

‘cause all of their frantic

light sparking antics

begins with a flame

on the butt, hence the name
