Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

Salient Sunflowers Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Salient Sunflowers
original watercolor still life w/sunflowers: 11" x 15

my sunflower deli
has at long last closed
the frailty of my girls
is sadly exposed
gone are the bonnets
framing their faces
like Emily’s sonnets
they’ve fallen from grace
their once dripping nectar
has all been drawn
their glorious beauty
vanished, gone
the busy bumble bees
have packed their suitcases
backpacking butterflies
have flown to new places
has anyone noticed
those feisty goldfinches
have suddenly fled
good riddance, you grinches!
so farewell, Golden Girls
of this i am certain
it’s that time of year
to draw summer’s curtain....

  1. A very restful composition, Bertie. The softness of the window curtains adds just the right touch. Lovely indeed!

    1. Thanks, Sunny! 'Twas a fast and loose kind of painting.
