Shade Play
Sophie says
I really cannot wait
Sophie says
for a sunny day
Sophie says
probably in late May
when the winter will be over
meadows will burst forth in clover
we will paint plein air
in fields so fair
we hope to see you there!

And Yet
my sunflower friends
have taken their bows
their reign at an end
their show closing now
the summer stage crew
has struck down the set
takes a minute or two
packing up all that’s left
a new show’s beginning
cool winds are approaching
autumn’s edgier tone
and pride is encroaching
there’s a sharp dialogue
burnt sienna, scarlet hue
a biting monologue
with a punchline, cobalt blue
i’m watching, looking on
taking in the dry wit
wishing summer’s last song
would linger, just a bit

Girlz'nBoy

Seems I’ve lost my way
and there’s nothing to say
and there’s no one to blame
and I bear no shame
I gave it my best
shot, I NEVER do less
though I would suggest
and surely have guessed
continued success
by now I confess
still I’ve no regrets
‘cause I’m gonna bet
having lived through the test
‘twas as good as it gets

you cannot be chicken
if you do some paintin’
unless you are thinkin’
you’d like a good lickin’
‘cause just when that paint
does wondrous fresh stuff
your brain turns to mush
and you muck it all up

Flower Child

There once was a fall breeze named Sough
Not harsh nor decidedly tough
He called summer's bluff
Said “pick up your stuff”
And blew it away with a puff!
