back in the day

I remember we played

with marbles and jacks

and baseballs and bats

but sometimes I recall

though I tried hard to stall 

I had to apply

my  lip 

to the tip

of my tarnished old horn

and try not to sound

too bad or forlorn

much later I found

practice, patience, plus time

would greatly improve

my horn teacher’s mood!

it’s FREEZIN’ outside

‘cause what is it now

‘bout 20 below??

we don’t have enough

closets of coats

to keep out the chill

of this winter’s huff

and snow, I declare

is pushin’ the bounds

of stayin’ beyond

good manners, I swear!

so Sophie and I

surrender, okay?

we’re takin’ a break

from runnin’ out there.....

yet maybe .... there’s hope ....

the temps just might rise

the snow could depart

and we’ll get our shoes 

and lay down some smoke!
