Methods and Madness

Sometimes I paint fast and loose

Other times quite controlled

The subject decides the method

But each work has the same goal:

A painting that is successful

And beautiful to behold!

U.Chris Watercolor Portraits by Bertie Brown

U. Chris

original watercolor portrait: 8" x 10"

don’t want knickknacks

don’t want toys

don’t need rich snacks

to enjoy

just stop by

and we’ll spend time

drinking tea

or glass of wine

catching up

on days gone by

which do look better

from behind!

Musicians' Way Watercolor Portraits by Bertie Brown

 Musicians' Way
original watercolor portraits: 5" x 7"

Practice makes better
But perfect?
Not ever...
Especially if music
Is what you can do
You’ll prob’ly improve
But that’s questionable, too
My advice to you

Buy a Bertie Brown or two!

When Birds of Pray Fly Away Watercolors by Bertie Brown

When Birds of Pray Fly Away

original watercolor hawks, birds of prey: 9" x 12"

my hawk-eyes are not

happy ‘bout all

this wind that we’ve got

they’re bending right down

their heads to the ground

praying I s’pose

for a break in the clouds

and i have to say,

this just happens way

 too much i declare

on many fall days

so let’s have detent

for my birdy lot

wind, cold weather cease

desist and please STOP!

Hawkish Hydrangea Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Hawkish Hydrangea
original watercolor birds of prey: 8" x 12"

now the hawkeye said
to his buddy up ahead
why can’t we simply try
to lay our views aside
let’s get along today
‘cause that’s the better way
to live in peace and harmony
will benefit our karma, see

Ukers United Watercolors by Bertie Brown

to hasten on spring

now she’s strummin’ with Uke Uprising

once played horn in her town’s symphony

when she lost her good buzz

she took up uke cuzz

ukers don’t fret, they sing and they strum!

so come to the Ukulele

Uprising and surely you’ll see

that strumming the uke

with this friendly group

is great fun on Tuesday eve’nings

The Woman at the Well Watercolors by Bertie Brown

The Woman at the Well

original watercolor still life: 15" x 15"

High Maintenance

what ho!

i just want to know

where did the years go

and my body….also

oh

   back in the day

i simply must say

hard work had a way

of  keeping at bay

those inches that stay

in places that…hey!

i don’t like today

i’m feeling betrayed

hence this, my tirade

i cannot evade

old age, i’m afraid

this is my refrain

you’re young…i’ll explain

the fact does remain

it’s HARD to maintain…

 May your Christmas Bells
be shiny and bright
with melodies light
and harmonies tight
