A View From the High C’s
Is where I’ll be
With sketchbook in hand
Though it’s not what I planned
As I once took my place
In the second horn space
Or I played in the band
Or a show
With the pit crew way below...
But this view’s not so bad
There’s no stress to be had
Here in the Fulton’s lofty lairs
Above the balcony
And second stairs
Now the music that surrounds
These halls and abounds
Gives my drawings their sound
And I’m glad just to see
This view from the high C’s...

huh? now wait
it’s okay?
not so,
i’m afraid
this view’s getting old
my heart’s growing cold
‘though art feeds the soul
creatively, i’m told
but music, for me
gave generously
and filled up that need
that let me, be me
oh yes, i am blessed
and thankful no less
my paintings abound
so i’m not bereft
still
there lives a space
an empty embrace
where melodies waste
there’s no music, not a trace
so i’ve gotta see
what i’ve gotta do
to get back to me
some lost harmony
