Com-posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Com-posers
original watercolor sunflowers: 9" x 12"
And So It Goes
Seems the sun’s in retreat
Giving me the cold shoulder
Our summer’s romance
Is apparently over
Gone are the sundrops
Warming my face
Menacing shadows
Have taken their place
Cobalt blue breezes
Rustle about
Autumn is coming
Of that there’s no doubt
My sunflowers are ruined
Their beauty in tatters
Seeds, petals, leaves
Lie tossed about, scattered
I notice the dance
Of those spurious squirrels
As they snatch the remains
Of my golden sun girls
More quickly than ants
At a picnic, they advance
And I thought that finches
Were sunflower grinches!
Now I’m left all alone
With a dry, crumbling wall
Where my sunflowers had grown
Majestic and tall
But didn’t I hear
A whisper so clear
We’ll be back next year
With more summertime cheer!
