something finches disdain

as they each stake their claim

to my sunflower fame

do they not have a clue

I have etiquette rules

that they seem to eschew

as they grab and spit too

now I’d tell them to flee

‘cause they’re making a scene

and a mess at my feet

spitting shells through their teeth

but they are rather cute

in their black and gold suits

and their hollers and hoots

sound like piccolo flutes!
