Com-Posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown

Com-Posers
original watercolor sunflowers: 5" x 7 1/2"
Good Vibrations
i love the way
on a late august day
the sun reaches down
to gather around
my sunflower girls
with their gold-yellow curls
and their skirts made of leaves
swaying in the breeze...
the birds of the air
and the insects working there
create a vibration
a vibrato celebration
as they all harmonize
their praise to the skies...
i’m thankful to be
by this shimmering sea
and grateful to hear
this music of the spheres

A Pleasin’ Reason for the Girls in Season
You’re probably bored
After all you’ve endured
These paintings of girls
And their golden curls
They do love to preen
In their gold and green
They freely admit
They’re a bit narcissist
So I stay the course
With no due remorse
Posting these pix
‘Cause they just insist
They must know the drill
The need they fulfill
Their beauty will fade
As cool winds invade
So as the fall season
Begins that’s the reason
I post and I hope
The paintings are pleasin’

Creative Sewing by Bertie Brown
Creative Sewing for the Back to School Grandies
Absolutely Resolute
i’m absolutely certain
some truth is indisputable
and strictly put imputable
so don’t go all refutable
i don’t want your rebuttable
that verbal psycho-babbable
you’re so above reproachable
and also un-correctable
but that’s just irresponsible
and truly indefensible
we could be more sympatico
if you weren’t so emphatico

someitmes ya just gotta say and do somethin' different....

Piano Man Musical Motif Watercolors by Bertie Brown
The Piano Man
original watercolor w/horn, piano, violin, Mozart: 11" x 14"
The Maestro’s Woes
Horns near the backdrop
The Strings own the front spots
Right in the center
Are the Woodwind renters
Drums and percussion
Beat out the instructions
Harp and Celesta
Join in their discussions...
Playing together for better or worse
Learning the music
They all must rehearse
Perfecting rhythms
Some tricky, some fun
All of the orchestra
Playing as one...
Allegretto
Meno mosso
And Con Brio, too
Mezzo, Piano, Fortissimo Piu
We love all those ways
To play!
Tubas and trombones
Will fight for their turf
Oboes with puffed cheeks
Look ready to burst
Flutes, Clarinets
The Violas, Trumpets
All so polite
As they try not to fight.....
Instruments waiting for Maestro to cue
Watching the down beat
His hand in their view
A Violin shrieks
A clarinet squeaks
Scowls from the Maestro
But onward they go...
When notes don’t sing
From the high strings
Or a horn butts in
The music continues
The Maestro in tow
The audience shouts
“Bravo!”

Gas From the Past Landscape Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Gas From the Past
original watercolor landscape: 11" x 14
a summer’s romance
that time to relax
glance forward, just a bit
but never look back...
jasmine and honeysuckle
sweet scents of seduction
flirty fireflies wink
quick bursts of combustion
warm summer nights
a cashmere caress
sun-drenched daylight
cool linen, dazzling white
'tis summer’s sun-dance
these days go by fast
so enjoy while it lasts....
care to join me, by chance

Com-Posers Sunflower Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Com-Posers
original watercolor sunflowers: 14" x 14"
Ackkk!
the sun’s in retreat
giving me the cold shoulder
our summer romance
is apparently over
gone are the sundrops
warming my face
menacing shadows
have taken their place
cobalt blue breezes
rustle about
autumn is coming
of that there’s no doubt
my sunflowers are ruined
their beauty in tatters
seeds, petals, leaves
lie tossed about, scattered
i notice the dance
of those spurious squirrels
as they snatch the remains
of my golden sun girls
more quickly than ants
at a picnic, they advance
and I thought that finches
were sunflower grinches!
now I’m left all alone
‘neath a dry, crumbling wall
where my sunflowers had stood
majestic and tall
so my task is to wait
for this fact I hold dear
they’ll be back next year
with more summertime cheer!

Com-Posers Sunflower and Plein Air Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Lyrical Landscape: 9" x 12
Com-Posers: 11" x 14"
original watercolor landscape and sunflowers
Sunflowers
sienna brown faces
sporting golden sun bonnets
reading Emily's quirky poems
and Edna's soaring sonnets
their leaves a canopy
of swirling skirts, it seems to me
and stems so tall and true
standing proud on high heeled shoe
with much grace they selflessly
spill sweet nectar, share their seeds
while the birds and butterflies
and buzzing bees do drink and dine
