Climb Up Sunshine Mountain Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown
Climb Up Sunshine Mountain
original watercolor: 8" x 11"
that trusty old ass
tramps over the grass
as golden sun rays
dance through autumn days
I’m happy it shines
on your plants and mine
this season’s not bad
I hasten to add
that donkey’s like me
‘cause we both agree
we’ll miss these warm temps
as winter comes next...

Trio in Brassy Glass Musical Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown
Trio in Brassy Glass
original musical instrument watercolor w/horn, trumpet, trombone: 11" x 14"
menage a trois
if the trombone’s in charge
the trumpet won’t play
the horn won’t say
if he’ll go or stay
such is the way
our world behaves today
compromise is out
dissonance has clout
there could be peace and harmony
‘cause trios can play charming-ly

Alice Through the Looking Glass
original watercolor abstract: 11" x 8"
while summer bathed
in translucent honey haze
autumn arrives
with transparent amber days
indigo nights
blanket lofty star-filled skies
as cooler winds collide
pushing summer’s heat aside
from translucent to transparent
these transitions are apparent
seasons come and seasons go
each with it’s own unique show

Rockport Blues Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown
Rockport Blues
original watercolor still lifew/bottle, books: 8" x 11"
with summer concludin'
my house is exudin'
a welcoming style
so do come on in
and visit awhile
I’ll put on some tunes
how’s Beethoven for you?
and we can create
our own unique view
in my small art room
I’ve got Rockport blues
in a bottle or two
a napkin that’s new
and Salem Witch balls
in colorful hues
So if you’ve got time
and paint, any kind
( you could borrow mine)
the still life’s set up
and looks so sublime

Going Solo
The horn stands alone
Neither lost nor forlorn
Just a confident fellow
Shiny outside
Inside, mellow
Its song is quite melodious
With notes that soar
But can be somewhat odious
When notes don’t sound so sure
One thing is certain
With a rising stage curtain
The horn likes to play
The solos he’s given
In a most excellent way!

Symphony in Sea Major
Lobster buoys afloat
Lighthouses as beacons
Decorating the coast
Sublime northern light
Enveloping the sights
While dancing on tides
Tossing boats and floats
From side to side
Cormorants and gulls
Line up on the rocks
By the boats, or the docks
As they noisily wait
For some leftover bait
Granite boulders endure
Protecting the shore
Applauding the sea
BRAVO!
What a glorious symphony!

Morning Glory Motif #1 Seascape Watercolors by Bertie Brown
Morning Glory/Motif #1
original watercolor/Motif #1, Rockport, MA: 11" x 8"
Buoy Joy
Buoys will be buoys
In all shapes and sizes
Just like us girls
Despite our disguises
Buoys are like boxers
Ducking and weaving
Treading ocean waters
With strong currents heaving
The stripes that they wear
Go round and around
They look quite rotund
But they don’t much care
They do a sun dance
Giving tides not a glance
They’re anchored from below
And they won’t let go
They do their job joyously
Behaving so buoy-ishly!

Rockport Rhapsody Rockport, MA Watercolors by Daily Painter Bertie Brown
Rockport Rhapsody
original watercolor seascape/Rockport, MA: 11" x 7"
Lobsterman Shacks
Floats, traps
Lobsterman snacks
Ropes, tacks
Fishing knick-knacks
Boots, slickers
Lobsterman knickers
I bet there’s a place
For trusty duct tape
And WD 40
They’ve got it, surely
All this and more
Behind windows and doors
Filling crannies and nooks
And hanging on hooks
So remember this stuff
When you’re all in a huff
As you pay lots of bucks
For that Lobster you thought
cost way too darn much
At the boat dock co-op!

Rockport Fever
Sophie and I
Are planning a trip
To Gloucester and Rockport
And, yes, Bearskin Neck
We’ll gaze at the ocean
Climb over the rocks
Paint Motif Number One
At the edge of the docks
We’ll dip our big toe
In the cold ocean water
Go swimming???
Are you kidding
It’s gotta get hotter
We’ll head to Pigeon Cove
Walk the breakwater high above
Then buy fresh lobster
At the Co-op down below
With more things to do
More scenes to be viewed
We’ll need much more time
Than the plan we designed
So we’re savin’ our pennies
Our nickels and dimes
(We know it’s not much
But we’re tryin’ to rhyme)
For our piece of the Rock
Or a spot on the dock
Of Rockport’s scenic town
The best place we’ve found......
